Warning: We are cheesy during the Christmas season at our house. Not because it's Christmas but because we were married while the world had their Christmas lights up. Every year, when the first Christmas decorations go out on the store shelves, I start feeling excited. Everything reminds me of when we were planning our wedding.
We always spend a good six weeks texting silly I love you's and counting down to our anniversary. Of course, we never do anything big on the actual day because more than likely it is double scheduled with holiday events. But that has never really mattered.
What matters to me is that we made it through another year and it still feels like we were married just yesterday. If you are reading this thinking, Sheesh this lady is cheesy, well I warned you in the first sentence, didn't I? So you can skip down past the next part if it's getting to you!
To the Love of my Life:
I wrote down my first name with your last name after our first date.
I miss the sun-bleached hair you had after your mission.
I love when you play the guitar.
I love how nice you are to my mom. That counts for a lot.
I loved the way you looked the first time you put on your military uniform. And I loved the way you looked when you put it on this morning, and yesterday too.
I remember when you became a father. I knew you would be great at it and you are.
I was amazed when you saved a man's life last summer, right in front of my eyes.
I don't actually mind that you leave dirty clothes on the floor but I reserve my right to complain about it if I need attention on any given day.
I think your son will be just like you and your daughter will look for you in the eyes of her husband.
I hope to grow old with you. Promise me you won't leave before I do.
