MaRcH MaDnEsS & Mr. Jones

It happens ever year. I just about go crazy during the month of March. One reason for my MaRcH MaDnEsS would be all of the birthdays:

Brady ~ Lexa ~ Jet ~ Dan ~ Kelsey ~ Cheyanne ~ Tyson

I love all of these March-born members of my family. But why in the world did they all have to be born in the same month?

March always seems to have 1 or 2 additional things on the calendar that make it crazy. This year has been no different. But there is something that I absolutely love about March. His name is Mr. Jones.

When I was in college, my friend, Janis, and I had a revelation. We needed some house plants!!! So off we went to the local nursery to find some green additions for our apartment.

We bought more than a few.
We gave them all names.
And they all died....

...except for....Mr. Jones.

He was a shamrock. We named him after our friend, Clayton.

That crazy plant stayed alive for 12 years! Every March he would come into full bloom. Little purple flowers would blossom right around St. Patrick's Day. He reminded me of my college days and of my best friend. Sadly, Mr. Jones never came back from the dormant season last year and I finally had to toss him. So this year, I bought a new Mr. Jones. (We'll see how long he makes it.)

By now you might be thinking that I really have gone mad since I'm blogging about houseplants. And maybe you're right. But it could be that I'm just thinking a lot about Janis. Have you ever known and loved a friend so long that they seem to be a part of you? That's about the best way I can explain it. I've spent a lot of time with her lately.

She is getting her house ready to put on the market and so I've been able to spend a couple of weekends at her place, helping with projects. We had fun painting the counter tops to look like granite. No, I'm not kidding, you can actually do that! A few days ago, Janis put some pics on FB and her blog about fixing up her house. In her kitchen sits a shamrock. Can you guess what she named him?

I remember that plant. 12 years is a long time. My plates only last a few months if that. So how are things going? I can't wait to see you in April. We are going to make a count down chain for the girls. Well I love you
