I can remember the feeling of unity that existed in our country after the 9/11 tragedy. It was life changing for me.
I will never forget the way Americans came together as One Nation Under God. I always felt that it was a compensative blessing. How could a people endure such enormous loss without being attended to by God's angels?
I still feel very emotional any time I stand to honor the flag. I am a soldier's wife and I know that patriotism runs strongly in my kind. But I can't help feel that the unity from the aftermath of 9/11 is what swells within my heart when I hear the Star Spangled Banner.
I find myself worrying a lot about our county lately. There are times when it seems that both this country and the constitution are being torn to shreds. Not from outside forces like the 9/11 tragedy. But by it's own citizens.
It seems like the unity has faded. There is so much criticism in the media. People tend to believe everything they hear or read without stopping to think things through.
Sometimes, after watching the news, I turn off the TV and say a prayer for President Obama. I prayed for the former presidents as well. It makes me sad to see these men who represent our country being painted in a negative light over and over again. I know they aren't perfect. But if our citizens could find some common ground and work together to find solutions to our problems...then I believe that we would again be attended by God's angels.
I also wonder... Do people react so strongly because they are afraid?
We often use other emotions to mask fear. There has been a lot of fear in our country since 9/11. And now, with the economic crisis that we face, there is even more fear. We need hope.
I remember when President Bush held a national day of prayer shortly after the terrorist attack. Of course, crisicism found it's way onto the TV and computer screens, but I think that the majority of Americans participated in the day of prayer. And I think it made a difference. It gave us hope.
So, I invite you to say a prayer today. A prayer for our president and a prayer for our country. It doesn't matter what side of the political arena you find yourself standing on...
You Can Pray Anywhere...Pray until you feel HOPE and then hold on to Hope and never let go.
If you have a few minutes, after my very long post. This is a great story about a 9/11 survivor who was able to find hope.

That video was wonderful. Thank you for sharing it. It was a great reminder of what's really important. I'm going to have to share it with Dan.
I always pray for our President, no matter the party he's affiliated with. Obama isn't the Democratic president, he's MY president. Why wouldn't I want him to be successful in leading our country? I wish more people felt like that.
I shared that video too but for some reason I couldnt get it to do what yours did. Oh well. Anyways I did say a prayer I pray for our country , presidents, people of different cultures to come together and love and understand what we need.
Very well put! You are really great at expressing emotions through your writing, and I'm so glad you wrote this. It's what I have been feeling for awhile now.
