The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

MY WEEKEND

The Good:

Jet played a duet with Miss Jo from the ward. They performed Jingle Bells for a RS luncheon on Saturday. She started playing the piano when she was 7 years old and is now 87. Maybe Jet will still be playing the violin in 80 years.

The Bad:

We had Brady's family Christmas party on Sunday. Kind of. When Brady talked to his mom about the party, he told her he could do dinner at 5:00pm because he always has to stay after church for a couple of hours. We marked our calendar and we were all ready to go yesterday at 4:30 or so.

But something had gone terribly wrong because when we got to his sister's house, the party was over. Not ending, OVER. His parents had already left for their 2 hour drive home. Santa had come and gone. The gifts had been opened. The food had been eaten. You get the picture.

It took me a minute to figure out what was going on and so when I walked in and saw the wrapping paper all over the floor I said, "Hey, they started without us!" I thought some of the kids had gotten carried away. You know how kids and wrapped gifts have a hard time being alone together. All the while they were thinking that we didn't bother to show up on time. The party started at 2:00!!! Nobody told Brady. His dad had called him at 3:30 and asked him what he was doing. Brady said he was just finishing up and would be there soon. He didn't know that the party was probably mostly finished already. He thought his Dad was just excited to see everybody. Talk about a miscommunication! How did we miss the time change?

We were 3 hours late!!! Oh boy, that is bad, very, super, extremely bad with several more adjectives in front of BAD. I have to say that I am still in shock and have no emotional response at this time.

I was so proud of Brady. He was calm. If my family had a party without me, I wouldn't have been able to be so calm. He sat down and visited with his sister for a few minutes so the kids could play with their cousins, and then we left. (btw. . .You should see the stocking she made for her kids. She is amazing. They are quilted in tiny little triangles of fabric.)

Then, instead of going home, Brady drove us around to find Christmas lights. He remembered all of the great houses from last year. The kids sat in the back eating the relish tray I was assigned to bring to the party. Good thinking, Honey!! This morning they woke up and were happy, oblivious to what they had missed out on yesterday.

The Ugly:

Military Deployment in the near future.

Oh, so ugly.

MJ's Advice to all Party goers:

That's horrible about the party!! I wouldn't have dealt with that so well.

Sad about the deployment. :( Hope it's not for long.

I don't think that I would have been so calm about the party. I think that I would have say down and cried in the middle of the floor. I hope Brady isn't gone for too long. We will keep him in our prayers.

Sorry about the party. Such is life I suppose. It sounds like you handled it well. I might have cried.
